Avoiding Credit Scams & Loans

All of a sudden you find yourself in need of major financing. You checked your credit report and you are not in good shape. You owe money to several companies, your credit cards are maxed out, and you have a history of paying late. Things are not looking good financially. Rebuilding your credit can take months or even years. But then you remember the ad you saw on television last night offering credit to anyone no matter what their credit report says.

Too Good To Be True

These types of ads are everywhere today, with companies loudly proclaiming that no matter who you are and what financial shape you are in, they will come to your rescue and give you the financial hand up that you need. But beware! If it sounds too good to be true, then you better do some serious research before signing on the dotted line.

Draining You Dry

First, while it is true that there are many places you can get money quickly, read the fine print. It is going to cost you. Steep interest rates and fines for paying off early go hand-in-hand with loans to those with bad credit. You do not get something for nothing, and this is especially true in the world of finance. These types of lenders are happy to get you hooked and then suck you dry with interest rates that are sky high.

Debt Consolidations

While there are some legitimate debt consolidation business willing to help put you back on the straight and narrow path of finances, there are just as many scams. Places that have you pay them one lump sum a month and promise to get rid of all your debts may not do what you think they will. Often they do not pay the bills on time, or they work something out with the company but your credit report still shows the payment as being late or written off by the company. Neither one is good for you and can actually make your credit worse. It can also take years to pay off debts this way, and all while the company is collecting their monthly portion of your fees for helping you. Be very careful before signing up for a debt consolidation loan.

Genuine Help

If you need help making a budget and sticking to it or need to get out from under mountains of debt, there are honest counseling places to go to. These companies help you make a good budget you can live with, get interest or payments lowered on what you owe, and overcome financial hardships. They receive a lump sum from you monthly which they disburse to your creditors on your behalf.

Be Patient

If your credit is a mess, do not rush into any financial commitments. Take time to fix it and be patient. You may have to make sacrifices and tighten your belt to get through until you can get it cleaned up.
